Mountain Laurel

where is Mountain Laurel

Commonly Found

Mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia) is commonly found in the eastern United States, thriving in acidic, well-drained soils and shaded woodlands. It grows in forested areas, particularly in the Appalachian Mountains, from Maine down to northern Georgia. Mountain laurel is often seen in the understory of hardwood forests, where it forms dense thickets, creating a striking landscape in spring when its pink and white flowers bloom. It prefers elevations between 1,000 and 3,500 feet and can also be found in some parts of the Ozarks and parts of the Midwest, where the soil conditions are similar.
